This weekend, I made a huge change in my life, I rescued a dog!  I've only had Koopa (Warrick Humane Society named him Hartz originally) for four days, and my life has already been changed for the good.

I was so nervous at first, I've never been responsible for another life and I've always been used to being very free to do whatever I want.  But, I fell in love.  The moment I met Koopa I knew I couldn't leave him.  We locked eyes, he stuck his paw out from his cage and put it in my hand and I just held it until someone came and unlocked the cage to let me hold him.  He didn't bark, didn't whimper, he just stayed right by my side as if he knew he was finally going home.

As soon as I adopted him, I could tell he was just as nervous as I was, but I knew we were both so happy.  That day was the first day he was going to have a peaceful sleep on a comfy bed, with someone who loves him next to him.

Caleb, my boyfriend, and I couldn't have made a better decision than to have taken him home, within the four days of owning him I've seen so much life restored in him.  He no longer falls down to the ground in fear when you reach down to pet his back, he greets us when we come home with excitement, and he's starting to eat and drink more each day as he builds more trust in us.

He's even made a great friends with our friends' dog, Ollie!!!

I highly recommend adopting your next loving animal.  It's been one of the best decisions of my life, and I can't even describe how relieved I felt when Koopa walked out of that place knowing he's got a long, happy life ahead of him outside of a cold, hard cage, with sadness all around him. He now will have the life he deserved from the very beginning!
