Kelly Clarkson recently announced a limited, 10-show residency at Zappos Theatre at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. It gets underway at the end of this month- July 28th- and runs just a handful of selected dates through Saturday, August 19th. I snagged tickets for Friday, August 11th and just surprised my husband with tickets to the show.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a story about Meghan's Confections in Owensboro, Kentucky. Meghan recently created an amazing Taylor Swift cake for a diehard, local fan. That cake paid tribute to each of Taylor's ten albums. When I saw the cake, I knew I had to do a story about it.

Leading up to that story, I had been trying to decide how I was going to share the news with Kevin that I was taking him to Vegas to see Kelly.  Since she announced the dates of her residency, he's been talking incessantly about going. I can't tell you how many times I have heard, "She's only doing ten shows. That's it. If we don't go, we're not going to get another chance to see her."

Well, we're in the middle of a pretty massive home renovation and Kevin has been working tirelessly on that. So, I decided it would be fun to spring the Kelly surprise on him near the very end of the project.  Knowing that she would knock it out of the park (or the Zappos), I asked the owner of Meghan's Confections if she could bake up a "reveal" cake. The cake needed to have two themes- Las Vegas and Kelly's new album Chemistry. Meghan NAILED it!

I surprised Kevin over the weekend and he was pumped. But, I have tell you that, at first, he was a little confused. I told him that I had a surprise for him and he walked into the kitchen to find this.

I realize that this looks like it could have housed a severed head. LOL!  But, I told Kevin to carefully lift the pillow case off. He did and revealed the masterpiece.

Kevin's a huge Kelly fan and immediately noticed that Meghan used the cover art for Chemistry as the theme for the cake. He then did the math (after seeing the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign on top) and realized the cake was signaling our trip to Nevada to see her in August.

The reveal went exactly as planned and Kevin's reaction was priceless- to both the severed head presentation and the actual cake reveal. And, I am sure you're wondering if the cake tasted as good as it looked.

We hacked a sizable wedge out of it almost immediately and devoured every single bite. And I woke up this morning to find Kelly missing another considerable section of her backside. Well played, Meghan.
