With the popularity of Mackelmore's "Thrift Shop," I wasn't surprised when a Facebook friend posted asking where the "good one's" are. I immediately thought of my favorite - Abyssco!

If you're familiar with Abyssco then you know exactly how awesome it is. If you've never been, allow me to fill you in on what you're missing! This is one awesome place! They have a ton of amazing finds from retro vintage to modern styles along with jewelry, art, books, and so much more! My last trip there, I scored a great pair of jeans for only $5 and an awesome shirt for $3!

Pop culture rescue center and museum of temporary art. Also, consignments

Abyss is also really big into repurposing and reusing. You may take your purchase home in a bag from another store that is being reused or you might take home your stuff in a tank-top that has been repurposed into a shopping bag! They also have tons of items made by local artisans that have been recycled, reused, or repurposed. Abyss is totally eco-friendly!

Chimera

One of the other great things about Abyss is Chimera (pronounced: K-eye-mare-uh) - the shop kitty! When you're there shopping, don't be surprised to find something warm and soft rubbing against your ankle. That's just Chimera swinging by to say hello! Chimera lives in the shop, and receives a ton of attention from everyone who comes in. This kitty is chocked full of personality! My last trip in, she actually pulled the receipt off of the cash register with her teeth, and then handed it to me with her front paws. I can't make this up!

The next time you are looking for a cool, locally owned & operated place to shop check out Abyssco! They are just off Green River Road, on Monroe Ave, right next to the bowling alley.

Follow them on Facebook!
