This time of year the holiday CDs come out and you look for the radio stations that play what will be your holiday soundtrack. Like everyone, you have your special songs that just light you up with spirit. I enjoy it all, from Andy Williams and Bing Crosby, to the newer artist She and Him and Train, along with anyone who tries their hand at holiday album.  But please, no dogs or cats singing Christmas music.  Even I have my limits.   As with all of the music I love, I look for the ones that speak to me, and those become my favorites. So I now wish you a Merry Christmas with my top five favorite Christmas songs.
5. This Christmas While I admit I prefer it done in the style of Chris Brown or Christina Aguilera, I enjoy any rendition of this song when it is done well. It’s the idea of focusing on and appreciating this moment of Christmas, along with all the wonders that if offers. The truth in this song rings louder with age, saying whether you are decorating, cooking, or wrapping gifts, to enjoy it and the people with whom you share it.  If you get it all or nothing, enjoy "This Christmas."

4. Blue Christmas – When I hear this song title, I immediately think of Elvis Presley, but I like all the versions I've heard. This song revolves around the thought of missing loved ones around this time. I found it was more personally fitting for me when I was younger and thought I'd never find that special someone. To this day, the thought of not seeing my family would bring me a Blue Christmas.

3. Please Come Home for Christmas - I first fell in love with this song while watching Home Alone. I love the idea of wanting loved ones to join you for the holiday, because the special people in your life are so important. No matter what your life holds, no matter how busy you think you are, you have to make time for your family. That is even more true during the special time of the holidays. Wherever you are Please Come Home for Christmas.

2. Shake Up Christmas – This song by Train is a newer song compared to a lot of the best Christmas music, but it says everything I would want to say if I were to write a Christmas song. It has the magic of a child’s wish and the simple request of a smile for a loved one.   And there's the hope that you find someone that keeps the spirit in their heart the same way you do when love is shared. If you aren’t finding all the good stuff this holiday, maybe you should Shake Up Christmas.

1. Happy Holidays/It's the Holiday Season - This song is sung by Andy Williams. As soon as I hear this classy, catchy song, my spirit shoots through the roof, and I burst into an enjoyable lounge act for all to witness! In my mind I’m in tux with martini and cigar in hand, crooning to all the pretty ladies and well dressed men. It has no deeper meaning than the explanation the fact it's Christmas and Santa Claus is coming, but it's such a great Christmas song. Now go give these all a listen and have Happy Holidays!
