I truly believe that the success of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Thift Shop" songe proves that  the era of the "baller" has run its course. The 80's gave birth to the "greed is good" generation and I think that 2013 has seen its death. Even one of the hotter hip hop acts of the past year only wears "2 chains"...get it?

I think people are starting to realize that Ballin' out of control comes at very high price (pardon the pun) and it's often at the expense of other people. Now, I'm not saying that we should give away all of our stuff and purposely live like monks but I do think that financial responsibility is starting to hit home with a LOT more people.

I remember when you couldn't BE a rap, pop, or rock star without wearing a least a million dollars worth of gaudy chains, rings, and jewelry! Now, thanks to Macklemore's hit, it's cool to be money conscious!

So the next time somebody says they're gonna "make it rain", instead of heavy storms, it'll probably be a light drizzle...
