This morning on The Rob's Radio Show with Kat Mykals, we were talking about Kurt Cobain's childhood home going on the market for $500,000. Kat put it out there that she thought Cobain and his band Nirvana, though were talented and influential, were overrated and Rob and Chandelle agreed. So, we posed the question on social media:

This morning, we got some listeners fired up when we mentioned that Kurt Cobain is kind of overrated. AGREE or NOT?

Here's our responses and our favorite listener responses:

DISAGREE

Dani Eveland  DISAGREE!!! Kurt influenced an entire sub culture with his music.. of all the Seattle bands of the same genre, his was the only to break into mainstream America. ALSO, he managed to stay humble and true to himself and his beliefs.. The whole suicide has nothing to do with his influence.. and in my opinion, is questionable.. compared to the cookie cutter music we have today, his songs meant something to a generation, and it wasn't about sex... Just my opinion, but i believe he deserves tons of respect

Jacenda Onyett  Agree but I do like Nirvana. Thankful he put a stop to some of the garbage that was being pumped outta LA. Hair "metal" was getting more outta control than Poison's Aqua Net habit!

Yesenia Cuevas  Not at all!!!! I know Kat and I have different taste but this cuts me to my core. I remember the moment I heard he had died.

AGREE

Kat Mykals Absolutely Kurt Cobain is overrated! There were so many other great bands that were a part of the Grunge movement - far more influential bands. Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, etc... The reason that everyone knows Kurt Cobain and Nirvana is because of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," which teetered on the line of Bubble Gum. It was a catchy radio song. Nirvana is fine. They had some really great music that wasn't "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Kurt Cobain? Not so much. If he hadn't committed suicide, he'd likely be one of those sad VH1 "Where Are They Now" stories. In the meantime, we have Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters. Glad to see Grohl move from the shadow of Kurt Cobain to the front of the stage.

Steven Henning Completely AGREE, I'm glad someone else voiced this. I am tired of people singing his praises. I've never understood self loathing celebrities.

Rob I don't want to come off as someone that dislikes Kurt Cobain OR Nirvana. The opposite is true, I like them. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a great song, and could arguably considered one of the most IMPORTANT and INFLUENTIAL songs of all-time, or at least the 90s. That song certainly kicked off a "grunge movement" that probably made it easier for other bands like Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains to find success, however it was a movement that was likely going to happen with or without Kurt Cobain. I never connected with his lyrics that people hold in such high regard. He's regarded by many to be a god in music, and I can't agree with that. Kurt was great... But his legacy is overrated in my opinion.

Jason Hayden Definitely overrated. He was not the Messiah That some of you want to make him out to be.

Scarlette Martin Talented yes..but stupid too. I don't care the reason. He had has his entire career ahead of him and family and it was not enough. So over it!
