The first portion of the Interstate 69 highway extension is scheduled to open to traffic on Monday, but not before Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels and Lieutenant Governor-elect Sue Ellspermann christen the project in an official ribbon cutting ceremony.

According to the state Department of Transportation, the grand opening ceremony will be conducted in Evansville, Washington and near the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center, in which a large caravan led by Governor Daniels will travel all the way up the 67-mile stretch of highway.

Plans to open the other half of the I-69 route between Crane and Bloomington are predicted to happen sometime in late 2014.
