Did it break any records?  Full box office report inside.

"The Hunger Games" had a hugely successful opening weekend.  Movie ticket website Fandango claimed the advance sales on their site were the highest in the history of the company, which is about as old as the internet itself.  The movie actually had the third greatest opening in the history of film, about $14 million behind "Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows- Part 2" and about $3 million behind "Batman: The Dark Knight."  It opened about $12 million more than the highest opening "Twilight" film, which happens to be "New Moon."

However, every film that opened better than "Hunger Games" is a sequel, technically giving it the world record for a new intellectual property (IP).  The film also beat "21 Jump Street," which is in its second week in theaters, by about $124 million.

Dr. Suess' "The Lorax" came in third place this weekend making $13 million.
