Hoosier Basketball will relive their 15 minutes of Hollywood stardom early next year when it inducts the creators of the critically acclaimed basketball film ‘Hoosiers’ into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

Earlier today, event organizers announced that in March 2013, they will be inducting ‘Hoosiers’ director David Anspaugh and screenwriter Angelo Pizzo as recipients of the St. Vincent Health Silver Medal for contributions to Indiana high school basketball for persons other than player or coach.

The 1986 film staring Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey and Dennis Hopper (who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the film) is loosely based on the Milan High School basketball team that was led to victory in the 1954 state championship.

Both Anspaugh and Pizzo grew up in Indiana, as well as produced the 1993 Notre Dame football movie ‘Rudy’.
