Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari to Debut New Watercoaster – The Mammoth [VIDEO]

May 5th marks the opening of the 2012 season at Holiday World followed by the opening of Splashin' Safari the following Saturday, May 12th. After debuting their first ever water coaster, The Wildebeest in 2010 to rave reviews including being voted the number one water park ride on the planet by Amusement Today magazine in 2010 and 2011, Holiday World and Splashin' Safari decided 2012 was the right time to kick it up a level by debuting The Mammoth.

After taking a ride on The Wildebeest last year during a trip to Holiday World with my family, I'm really looking forward to giving The Mammoth a try. Stretching just over a 1/3 mile at 1,763 feet, it beats The Wildebeest as the world's longest water coaster by 53 feet. At it's highest point, it stands 69 feet in the air with it's longest drop checking in at 32 feet at a 45-degree angle. The ride time is 30 seconds longer than that of The Wildebeest, clocking in at a full three minutes.

Another notable difference between the two are the rafts riders will sit in during the course of the ride. Whereas The Wildebeest features a toboggan-style raft which seats four riders front to back in a single file row, The Mammoth will feature two different rafts. A 6 person round raft where riders will face each other in a circle, and an 8 person "forward flier" which I assume is a larger version of the rafts used on The Wildebeest.

There's no doubt in my mind The Mammoth will be nothing short of awesome! Although it is computer animated, the video below will give you a pretty good idea of what's in store for you as you climb aboard the ride.
