Yesterday, I glanced at my phone and noticed some activity in our neighborhood group text. I had turned off the notifications a while ago to avoid interruptions while I work. Our neighborhood seems to be a favorite place to dump dogs and we live in the woods so trees are always falling over into the road so there's a lot of back-and-forth on the party line.

However, yesterday's conversation took a more serious tone. There had been a couple of significant accidents in Warrick County, and the sound of sirens could be heard in the area. Later, we learned through a neighbor's prayer chain that two Boonville High School students, Alyson and Dale Scales, were involved in one of the accidents. They were siblings, and the collision occurred at the intersection of Folsomville Road and Barren Fork Road.

Tragically, Alyson didn't survive the accident, and Dale was airlifted to a nearby hospital and is listed in critical condition. It was a sobering reminder of how quickly life can change and to hug your babies tight.

This morning on Facebook, I noticed a neighbor posted a link to a donation page for the family. I can only imagine the medical bills that come along with a life flight and an ICU hospital stay. After tragically losing a child, no parent should have to worry about paying for a funeral or medical bills.

My heart goes out to this mom and their family. It's unfathomable. But, if there's one thing that our community is good at, it's coming together to take care of our own. If you'd like to help the Scales family, consider donating today.

The GoFundMe was started by Kristen LaMar and to date has raised over $4,000. She had this to say about the fundraiser.

My name is Kristen and I’m reaching out to everyone who knows Heather and her family. As many have heard and seen in the news she received the news that would be any parents/families nightmare her son and daughter was in a horrible car accident this morning on their way to school. She lost her daughter Alyson and her son is fighting for his life. He is listed in critical condition. The funds raised here will go to her to help pay for any medical expenses that she is facing and funeral cost. With being a single mom we all know the cost of things are expensive and no one should have to do this alone while having to of course be off work. This was devastating news to hear for her and her family. If you can’t help donate please keep her and her family in your prayers please. She is an amazing mom, person, and friend.
