Despite not being directly affiliated with Major League Baseball, or any of it's 30 teams, it's not uncommon for players from the Evansville Otters parent league, the Frontier League to get the call from a big league team looking to add to their roster. The Otters are no stranger to this as several players over the course of their 20-plus year existence have been called up to the bigs, including the most recent addition, closing pitcher, Randy McCurry who signed with the reigning World Series Champion Chicago Cubs on Wednesday.

McCurry obviously is no stranger to being a part of a championship team with the Otters winning the Frontier League Championship last year, thanks in part to his three saves in 3.2 innings worth of work over the course of four appearances in playoffs where he didn' allow a single earned run.

His regular season stats are equally impressive; in 35 appearances in his one season with the Otters, he recorded 23 saves, struck out 41 batters, and finished the season with a 2.11 ERA.

In a press release provided by the team, McCurry looked back on his time in Evansville fondly, saying, “I love it, it felt more like family...It was a really good atmosphere, the town was big enough but it seemed like everyone remembered you.”

He joins three other pitchers from last year's Otters' squad to make the big leagues, as Max Duval and Ryan Atkinson signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Matt Wivinis is now wearing the pinstripes of the New York Yankees.
