I'm a guy, therefore I like movies where things explode, people punch and kick the living daylights out of one another, and there are at least a couple of pieces of "eye candy". By the looks of the first full length trailer for the highly anticipated Avengers, I'll get all that and then some.

I will openly admit that I never read comic books. I have an uncle on my dad's side of the family that always had them laying around grandma and grandpa's house, so any interaction with them came by thumbing through his copies of Thor just to look at the pictures.

Anything and everything I know about most comic book superheroes comes from watching cartoons on Saturday mornings or weekday afternoons when I got home from school. That's right kids, before Dr. Phil, Ellen, and Rachel Ray brought their parade of celebrity interviews and, in Dr. Phil's case, hillbilly psycho-therapy, there were cartoons on at least one of the local stations from about 2pm-4pm. This was also at a time when we only had 4 channels at my house because the cable company didn't provide service on the far west side where our house sat. We also didn't have the internet to keep us occupied (GASP!). We actually went outside and played to keep ourselves entertained, using broken tree limbs for swords, or climbing a tree that we imagined was our pirate ship. By today's standards we might as well been knuckle-dragging neanderthals that clubbed animals over the head and ate their raw flesh for dinner...but that's another topic for another time. I'm starting to sound like some old coot. The only thing missing is complaining about walking 10 miles to school in waist-deep snow uphill both ways (which technically is impossible unless you taking two different routes).

Anywho, back to the point, which if you've lost track is upcoming Avengers movie. The basic premise is this (and forgive me if I go total geek on this): Marvel Comics superheroes Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), The Incredible Hulk (Eric Bana), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner, a.k.a. my apparent doppleganer) are all brought together by the Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) who is the leader of a secret international intelligence agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. to take on any and all threats on planet Earth and the people who inhabit it (i.e. "us").

What makes this movie awesome is that it brings together multiple superheroes, some of which have had their own successful franchises, into one film. Which as far as I know, hasn't been done before. And if it has, it wasn't done with such A-List actors and today's computer and film-making technology.

Check out the trailer below. Even if you're not an action movie fan, I think it will have you looking forward to the films release in May of 2012.
