The Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation has announced an early dismissal contingency plan in the event the severe weather threat gets as bad as forecasted later today.

For the most part the latest update from the National Weather Service remains unchanged, calling for a line of storms to move into the area late this afternoon into the early evening, bringing with it a threat of damaging winds and heavy rain, as well as the potential for hail and tornadoes.

The late afternoon timing of the storm system unfortunately coincides with school dismissals meaning students, parents, and faculty would be trying to make their way home as the worst of the storm hits the area.

While they hope early dismissal won't be necessary, the plan in the even it does, according to their Facebook page, is as follows:

If dismissal is before noon, Extended Daycare Centers will not open. Parents will be notified to pick up children. If dismissal is after noon, the ED Centers will remain open on a regular schedule.

International Newcomer's Academy for high school students at Bosse High School will be cancelled.

Title 1 PreK classes at Daniel Wertz, Caze, Evans, Cedar Hall, and the Culver Family Learning Center will dismiss one hour earlier than their school location.

PreK classes at Little Husky World, Little Panther World and Dexter, as well as Bosse TLC, will close one hour after their school location if school is dismissed after noon. If school is dismissed before noon, these programs will close at noon.

Afternoon classes at the Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center; Early College High School at Ivy Tech; Medical Professions Academy at Central High School; Randall Shepard Academy for Law and Social Justice, and the JROTC Program at Harrison High School will be cancelled.

Classes will be cancelled for students on the P.M. alternate schedule at the Academy for Innovative Studies-Diamond campus.

After school extracurricular activities will be cancelled.

As of this writing, the EVSC is the only school corporation in the area to announce a contingency plan for early dismissal.
