Description: This talk will explore the impact of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling on independent spending in judicial elections, in particular the activities of corporations and unions. Through my research I have found that that spending overall has continued to increase and that unions have taken advantage of the ruling, while business groups appear not to have. As a result, I will discuss this unexpected finding and what it may indicate. As this is an election year, the outcome of the effect of Citizens United is particularly important.
