The Evansville Police Department released a statement through their Facebook page on Wednesday stating they've received numerous calls from residents that have been the targeted by someone claiming to be with the IRS.

According to the post, the scammers are telling potential victims they have an "IRS Warrant" out against them and will be arrested if they don't make an immediate payment.

The EPD makes clear that the actual IRS will not make calls like this. Nor will they send local police agencies to residences to make an arrest.

If you receive this type of call, the Evansville Police Department encourages you to contact the local IRS office to alert them to the scam, as well as to verify the call did not come from one of their representatives.
