On Friday May 11th, EPD was involved in a very scary situation in which there was an active shooter.  Unfortunately the incident resulted in two casualties, the shooter, and an innocent bystander Jeffery Kempf, who was only 56 years old.  Over the course of almost an hour several shots were fired on Friday night, police patrol cars were hit with the fire, so were four neighboring houses, there were no further injuries reported.

51 year old Barry Freeman is accused of being the shooter. He has since died from the result of two gunshot wounds from an officer, who is credited in stopping the shooting spree.

Today EPD held a press conference where they released nearby security cam footage, and police body cam footage. They also cleared up some misinformation about the case.
