For the second week in a row, Don't Breathe was the number one movie in America!  A slightly unknown late-summer horror flick has performed pretty well at the box office...  But is it any good?

In a word, yes, I really liked Don't Breathe! I'd give the movie a solid B.  I suppose I've seen scarier movies in my lifetime, and I've seen horror movies with better stories before.  In the modern era (the past 15 years or so), I feel like the high-bar has been set by the first Saw movie and the first Paranormal Activity.  I don't believe Don't Breathe lived up to THOSE lofty standards, BUT the film is great and original.

Once the film takes its grip on you, it NEVER lets you go.  And it grips you fairly early, so you spend a long time in under this film's spell!  They're always controlling the pace and your emotions, your heart rate is constantly at the mercy of the filmmakers.  The movie doesn't need A-list stars or big name producers.  Where the film really excels is in its STORYTELLING and ORIGINALITY...  I can't think of any other movie quite like Don't Breathe!
