Can you believe that today's generation will never know the meaning behind "you've got mail" or ever have to feel the pure stress that came with making sure your AIM profile, was the right colors, and that your away message was perfect for making sure your crush knew you were available, but you weren't TOO available.Oh the good old days of AOL!

I found this video of AIM sounds (seriously not sure how) and listening to it brought back some serious memories.  I feel like for at least my generation AIM was really our first taste of social media.  You created a profile and it was a way for you to connect with your friends online. I remember staying up all night to chat with my friends on AIM, and the first thing I'd do after school was sign into AIM and talk with my friends about ALL the crazy things that happened that day.

So were you apart of the "AIM generation?"  Listen to these sounds and see if they bring back any memories!

With AIM you could set up your profile, and then use AIM to really express yourself.  You mainly did that through an embarrassing screen name. See you couldn't just use your name and some numbers, you had to make sure your screen name really stood out, and said something about your interests.  My first AIM screen name my cousin made for me, it was ImaQTduck90.  Not really sure why we chose a duck, maybe I liked ducks back then who knows.  Of course that was like 7th grade, when 8th grade rolled around I was clearly too old to be known as the "duck girl" and I changed it to KartRacer (I raced go karts back in the day, true story).

So there you have it my totally embarrassing screen names, do you remember yours? Let me know! Leave a comment below! or tweet me @1061evansville
