When I was growing up, I was never allowed to walk around the block by myself. I honestly don't remember at what age my mom let me.

Now that I'm a parent, I do allow my 10 year old to ride his bike, skateboard, or walk to his friend's house. His friends don't live on our street, and we don't have sidewalks, so I do worry, but he is super careful.

I asked the question, because a mom in in IL was investigated by Child Services, after a neighbor saw her 8 year old daughter walking her dog alone. The neighbor also called the police, and they found no cause to investigate. Was this neighbor in the wrong, or should she have minded her own business? Do you allow your kids to go around the block, or walk where you can't see them in your neighborhood?
