The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning for a possible 'Zombie' deer disease outbreak! Contaminated deer meat has been found in over 20 states containing a chronic brain-wasting disease otherwise being referred to as 'Zombie' deer disease!

In an interview with USAToday, Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota stated, "It is probable that human cases of chronic wasting disease associated with consumption with contaminated meat will be documented in the years ahead [and] the number of human cases will be substantial and will not be isolated events."

The CDC has issued a list of precautions that should be taking be those that hunt and/or consumed deer meat:

  1. Don't handle ANY road kill!
  2. Have Deer/Elk meat tested BEFORE consumption!
  3. Always wear gloves when handling or field dressing a deer
  4. Have meat processed SEPARATELY if possible to avoid cross-contamination

No reports of HUMAN CWD have been reported as yet, but the CDC warns to take every precaution to avoid contaminated deer meat!
