Business Changing Name to “Booby’s Cafe” Causes Controversy…Because Evansville

Sortie Arts and Music has changed it's name to...tee-hee...."Booby's Cafe," causing controversy because of course it has.

The re-branded cafe is set to open next week and is causing stir because it has the word "Booby" in it. This was said to be done because of their mascot, Booby Blue, who is a blue-footed booby, a bird.

I'm not stupid. I know that this is the kind of head-turning name that gets people into building either under a false pretense ("I HEAR EVERYONE IS NAKED AT BOOBY'S") or by people like me talking about it. Here's what I'm not OK with: everyone being butthurt over someone naming their business whatever they want. One guy is mad because the town was not endorsing his idea for a Coyote Ugly style bar in Evansville yet this sub shop can be called "Booby's." Those are two completely different things. Naming your business something of a double entendre and offering a sexualized business are different. Booby's is just a sub shop and music venue that has a silly name.

Baskin Robbin's is across the street so people are naturally concerned about THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!shift+1!!!! What will the children think when they see the word "Booby's" on a sign? I don't know, probably the same thing they do when they see a sign for Hooter's or Show-Me's. They'll ask "What is that?" You, as a parent can say "Oh, it's a restaurant" or "It's a bird" or whatever else you want. Your child is not going to be psychologically damaged because they read a word on a sign. Also, fun fact: Your kids are probably the ****ing worst anyway and are being exposed to far worse stuff at school, home, or the infinite sex-dumpster known as the internet. Stop worrying about a local business and check their browser history.

Also, if Armanno really wanted to set Evansville ablaze with the controversy of bird-related double entendre, do you know how many birds have "tit" in their name?
