Beyonce Lip-Synced the National Anthem
Hold. The. Phone. What the what?! You definitely read that headline correctly, the very much talked about national Anthem at the inauguration of President Barack Obama yesterday was phony bologna!
During a part of her “performance” Beyonce took out her earpiece, which made everyone think that maybe she was getting some feedback that she didn’t want, and it made the whole thing look pretty convincing. Come to find out we aren’t really sure why she did that.
Apparently people that were seated close to Beyonce were able to tell she wasn’t singing. But on another side of it the press people that were in front of the Marine Corps band say that they weren’t playing either. Colonel Michael J. Colburn the Marine Corps band director, was acting like he was conducting while the band pretended to play their instruments…awkward.
It’s customary for them to prerecord performances just in case something was to go wrong, but in this case nothing was wrong. A rep for the Marine Corps band said that Beyonce made the decision to play the recording, however at other moments in the performance the band did actually play. The rep said: “We don’t know why Beyonce decided to use prerecorded music, all music [for inaugural ceremonies] is pre-recorded as a matter of course, and that’s something we’ve done for years and years. The Marine Band did perform live throughout the ceremony but we received last-minute word that Beyonce wanted to use the recording.”
The night before Beyonce shared a couple photos of her on her instagram where she was in the studio. In one she’s sitting in front of recording equipment, and in another she is in front of a mic holding up sheet music for ‘The Star Spangled Banner’.
Personally, I think this is a bit upsetting. Beyonce has such a phenomenal voice, and to think that she lip synced the National Anthem is just kind of a let down. She hasn’t said why she lip synced or anything, so who knows? What are your thoughts?
