This week's Petty Review takes place at a downtown favorite!

Backstage Bar and Grill opened around the same time as the Ford Center and is definitely one of the hot spots to hit up before concerts, sporting events, and anything else that might be happening in downtown Evansville. Unfortunately, that awesomeness didn't save them from a petty review.

This review has nothing to do with food, service, or anything that is normally complained about in the column. No, this reviewer instead decided to complain about honesty. As always, reviews are 100% real and 100% petty AF.

This person was upset that the manager (?) told them that they'd be closing down in 10 minutes because of an event. That's not unreasonable. The manager (?) just wanted to make them aware of the situation I assume to not allow them to order food only to be asked to leave because of said event. The event they were having a DJ and a singer, which the reviewer has a hard time believing they'd have to close down for since "they have a bandstand." Despite what the reviewer might think, having a bandstand doesn't mean that the instruments and equipment just teleport onto it.

This stuff is magic!

No, you have to carry stuff into the venue, which can be difficult if it's full of people trying to eat. I guarantee had they not closed, the same reviewer would have complained about "Some DJ kept lugging briefcases filled with record-spinny thingys and kept knocking into me. He knocked my fish on the floor and said he was 'dropping the bass.'" OK, that was a long way to go just for a terrible fish-pun but we are all better people for having read it. You probably don't want someone bumping into you or a wall, causing debris to get in your food. It's the reason most restaurants aren't placed inside construction sites.

"You've got to try the lobster, it has a nice drywall sauce."

So yeah, the answer to the question "They had to close for that?" is a resound "Yes, yes they did." The reviewer wraps up by being rightfully disappointed that they couldn't get food right that second because last time, they had "readily tasty fish tacos." Guess what: They still have those things if you would have just waited for them to let Mr. DJ load up his laptop and weird keyboard that makes the air-horn noise. But c'mon, to leave such a passive-aggressive "review" because a business was honest about closing up for a bit to get ready for an event is a new level of petty.
