2016 is almost over! Hallelujah! With everything that’s happened in the last 12 months, we can’t wait to rip the last page of our 2016 Spider-Man wall calendar and hang up our 2017 Spider-Man wall calendar.
There were a lot of great movies in 2016. There were! Please don’t let this list convince you otherwise. The movies were absolutely wonderful this year. Just not these specific movies. These were bad. So, so, so bad. Just awful.
By now, Se7en has become one of the most beloved thrillers of the 1990s. But did you know that in the big chase scene in the rain, Brad Pitt really fell and severely hurt his arm? The injury was so serious Pitt required surgery, and he had to spend the rest of production with his hand in a cast. The broken arm was written into the script, but you might notice that Pitt spends a lot of the film hiding his arm behind various objects — because those scene were shot after Pitt broke his arm, but before his character breaks his arm. When Bryan Singer’s latest X-Men adventure was screened for critics a few weeks ago, there was no post-credits scene attached to the end of the movie. In fact, several of the critics at the New York screening booed loudly after they sat through the entire closing credits only to find... absolutely nothing at the end. But now that the movie is out in theaters internationally ahead of its U.S. debut next week, it’s clear that there is a post-credits scene that was held back from early screenings. Sneaky, sneaky. The short version: There’s lots of new stuff coming to Netflix this May, including the returns of Netflix Originals Bloodline and Grace and Frankie. The second Adam Sandler Netflix movie arrives (that’s The Do-Over, with David Spade), and on the not-made-by-Netflix side of things you’ve got the recent movie version of Goosebumps with Jack Black (which was actually pretty great), Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief, and the powerful satire Pleasantville.
Not sure if you heard, but a little movie called Batman vs. Supermancomes out next week. You probably don’t need much in the way of convincing at this point; As divisive as the movie has been, you’re either with it or against it at this point...
