‘IT’ Director Spills Details on ‘Chapter Two’ and the Future of the Losers Club
Although Warner Bros. and New Line have yet to formally greenlight IT: Chapter Two, director Andy Muschietti and his producing partner (and sister) Barbara are already developing the follow-up to one of this year’s biggest hits. With a record-breaking opening weekend and screenwriter Gary Dauberman reportedly on board for the sequel, it shouldn’t be long before WB gives the go-ahead. Until then, Muschietti is spilling the beans on his plans for Chapter Two and how the young cast factors into the story, which is set 27 years after the first film.
Jared Leto Is Not Pleased With WB’s Desire to Start Seeing Other Jokers
Jared Leto is like that one dude you date who’s kind of a hot mess. He’s really fun and spontaneous, and sure, okay, he really opens you up to new experiences but his sense of humor is weird as hell and he makes some questionable fashion choices. Let’s say the “you” in this scenario is Warner Bros., and you’ve grown a little weary of Leto’s dubious sense of mischief, and also a little tired of all your friends clowning on him on Twitter — so you float an idea that should appeal to his “free spirit”: An open relationship. He’s free to keep making his Joker movies, and you’re free to see other Jokers.
Disney’s Live-Action ‘Aladdin’ Casts ‘Murder On the Orient Express’ Star as Jafar
According to a recent LOL-worthy rumor, Guy Ritchie was eyeing Tom Hardy to play Jafar in his live-action remake of Aladdin, but today’s news will give your eyes a much-needed break from rolling: Disney has not only lined up an actor for the role of the sinister villain in the upcoming live-action reimagining of their animated classic, but they’ve added a former SNL favorite to the cast, as well.
‘Wonder Woman’ Gearing Up for Serious Oscar Campaign
It takes a lot for Academy voters to recognize or even acknowledge a superhero film, but perhaps the highest-grossing film ever directed by a woman could do the trick. With a worldwide box office gross of $781 million (to date) and a 92 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Wonder Woman is a certified hit. Critics and audiences alike have fallen head over heels for Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s solo superhero film, but can Warner Bros. get Oscar voters to do the same?
‘IT’ Filmmakers Considered Casting Tilda Swinton as Pennywise
From an androgynous angel hellbent on revenge to the self-loathing mother of a sociopath, a despicable dictator, the CEO of a pharmachemical corporation and pretty much everything in between — there’s almost literally nothing that Tilda Swinton cannot do. So when the filmmakers behind IT revealed that they gave serious thought to casting one of the most chameleonic and creatively-minded actors of our time in the role of a sinister supernatural clown, it wasn’t exactly surprising.
Jeremy Renner Won’t Let Some Broken Bones Get in the Way of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
Of the two ensemble films Jeremy Renner is currently shooting, you’d think the one that isn’t an action-packed superhero flick wouldn’t result in a couple of broken bones — but that’s exactly what happened to the Marvel star on the set of the upcoming comedy movie Tag, which centers on a group of friends that have been participating in an intense 30-year version of the titular game. Seems like something along the lines of Avengers: Infinity War would involve a greater risk of physical injury. You would think that, and you would be wrong.
‘The Big Sick’s Kumail Nanjiani and Emily Gordon on Turning Their Real-Life Romance Into a Really Great Rom-Com
Every few years we’re blessed with a romantic comedy so perfect that it becomes an instant classic. I can say with 100 percent certainty — and absolutely zero hyperbole — that The Big Sick is the next film to join the great rom-com canon. Written by Kumail Nanjiani and Emily Gordon (and based on their real-life courtship), The Big Sick stars Nanjiani as himself (sort of), a Pakistani-American comedian who falls for the girl of his dreams (Zoe Kazan subbing in for Gordon). But if you’ve seen the charming trailer, you know there’s just one catch.
‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Adds ‘Black Mirror’ Star Hannah John-Kamen in ‘Key Role’
[Cue Barenaked Ladies] IT’S been…a minute since the last update on Ant-Man and the Wasp, but today’s casting news seems like a fairly significant development — if nothing else, Scott Lang’s next adventure is picking up a bit of steam with the addition of Black Mirror star Hannah John-Kamen. The actress has reportedly been cast in a “key role” for Marvel’s upcoming sequel, but given the history of that phrase in the MCU, it’s entirely possible that role is somewhat small (sorry).
An Enchanted CG Toilet Terrorizes Josh Gad in This Great ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Deleted Scene
There’s no easy way to say this, but if you saw Beauty and the Beast in theaters, you were ROBBED. All week long Disney has been dropping additional content from the hit live-action remake online to promote the upcoming Blu-ray release, including some pretty darn cute behind-the-scenes footage. But there is nothing cute about the latest clip, in which director Bill Condon reveals a scene that was unjustly deleted from the film. That sneaky dude has been holding out on us.
You Won’t See Any ‘Wonder Woman’ Deleted Scenes Because They Don’t Exist
Zack Snyder had so much additional material for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that he delivered a three-hour director’s cut for the Blu-ray release. And after all those reports of reshoots and competing cuts, Suicide Squad arrived on home video with a decent amount of bonus footage — mostly featuring Jared Leto’s Joker. As for Wonder Woman, director Patty Jenkins says you shouldn’t expect to see any deleted scenes when the film hits DVD and Blu-ray…because there aren’t any deleted scenes, like, at all.
‘Wonder Woman’ London Premiere Canceled Following Manchester Terrorist Attack
Following Monday night’s terrorist attack at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, Warner Bros. has officially canceled the London premiere of Wonder Woman, the studio’s highly-anticipated superhero film — and the first in over 10 years to feature a female lead. The news comes just one day after British Prime Minister Theresa May elevated the terrorist threat level from “severe” to “critical,” and announced that another attack could be “imminent.”
Tom Hardy Is ‘Venom’ in Spider-Man Villain Film From ‘Zombieland’ Director
In news that clearly came from the farthest depths of left field, Tom Hardy has been cast as the lead in Venom, Sony’s upcoming film about the famous Spider-Man villain. That’s not all: Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer will direct the movie, which is reportedly not a spinoff from Spider-Man: Homecoming, but a standalone project of sorts. Oh, and that’s still not all: Sony has shared an official announcement photo featuring Hardy in one of his classic Hardy-selfie poses, sporting a Venom t-shirt — in case you missed the point.
