This morning on The Rob's Radio Show with Kat Mykals, we were discussing American Idol, and the season finale that will take place tonight, crowning the Season 12 winner. Rob, Kat, and Chandelle got into a heated debate about whether you - our loyal KISS-FM listener - are still watching the singing competition.

The Rob

I know this may come as a surprise to some people, but I don't actually like these music competition shows. I started watching them two years ago when I started doing the morning show because they're pop-culture fixtures and they're things to talk about on the air. Idol was on for 10 seasons, and I NEVER watched a single episode. I never even heard of the Voice until season 2 (although I've developed a genuine affection for it). Idol is not nearly as powerful as it used to be, but is still a rating dominator and a huge presence on TV. I don't seeing going away any time soon, but would attend its funeral with a huge smile on my face.

...Go Candice!

Kat

While I will admit that yes, there is still an audience for American Idol, I don't think the majority of you here in the Tristate are as invested in this show as Rob thinks. After 12 years, too many bad theme night choices, countless winners who never really end up being remembered, and so many changes at the judges tables, I believe that most of you are on the same side of the fence as me and Chandelle. We. Just. Don't. Care. Some might say, we're over it.

Chandelle

I think it's time for American Idol to call it quits. Starting next season, they wouldn't even have any of the same judges from when the show originally aired. Yes, every now and then one of the winners comes out with a great career, but after 12 seasons, it doesn't seem like that is happening much anymore. The show was good while it lasted and did huge things for music and TV, but I hope to see it end soon.

Now the real question is what do you think? Are you still watching? Are you over it? Let us know!
