I had to go pay a visit to the Dentist today to get two teeth pulled but I think the anticipation of pain can sometimes be worse than the actual pain itself! Like most people, ever since I was a kid, I always DREADED going the dentist. And having a mom that was big on dental hygiene meant I saw the dentist REGULARLY all the way up until I got discharged from the Marine Corps.

And also like most people, I tend to work myself up into a frenzy, thinking about the sound of those drilling and cleaning instruments and the pain of the needles as the dentist administers the numbing agent. One of my worst fears is to be in the middle of the procedure and have the Novocaine wear OFF! That happened to me at the VA Hospital when I had to get my wisdom teeth removed on the OTHER side.

They used laughing gas during that procedure instead of the Novocaine due to having to cut the gums in order to remove a side-ways growing tooth that was pushing the other teeth out of position. Needless to say, to my GREAT DISMAY, I woke up toward the end of the second extraction to was seemed to be an escalating stinging sensation inside my mouth.

The dentist realized something was wrong when I made eye contact with him and started moaning in pain (it was very awkward for both of us)! Luckily the doctor operating the laughing gas was quick on the draw and quickly gave me another dose to put me right back out!

Are you afraid of going to the dentist? What's the worst part for you? Leave your comments in the box below!
