Alicia Silverstone Wants Your Breast Milk

Eco-warrior Alicia Silverstone is at it again, but this time it's not to tout ecologically safe vibrators that run on love and patchouli or to feed her son like a baby bird -- but rather to organize a breast milk swap between mothers.

Sorry, were you eating? Our bad.

Silverstone, mother to 2-year-old son Bear Blu, announced the "Kind Mama Milk Share" on her blog, saying it was created to "support those mamas and babies who need a hand."

"If you have milk to share — post it! If you are in need of milk — post it! Think of all the babies we can help raise together!"

In fairness, the swap itself is rooted in a good deed (Silverstone wanted to help out a friend who couldn't produce enough milk because of a breast reduction surgery), but the whole thing just seems like it could go terribly sour. No pun intended.

Doctors say that while it's okay for a baby to drink milk from a mother other than its own, that milk can carry diseases like HIV -- just like any other bodily fluid. And while many mamas with their hearts (and breasts) in the right place have offered to donate, Silverstone can't guarantee the milk is "clean."

The FDA instead recommends that these generous ladies contribute to approved breast milk banks. And yes, those are things that exist.
