Is one of your New Year’s resolutions to improve your health? Your BBB® brings you news of a challenge that might be just the incentive for you. It’s called the “1 Billion Steps Challenge.” It is sponsored by the American Public Health Association (APHA) whose mission is to improve the health of the public and achieve equity in health status and whose vision is to create the healthiest nation by the year 2030.

The idea behind the Challenge is to have individuals and/or teams sign up to see if collectively they can walk a total of 1 billion steps between January 9 and April 9, 2017. The April 9 date marks the end of National Public Health Week.

Anyone can participate as an individual or as part of a team. To register and sync your phone or other tracking devices, click here. APHA has partnered with Stridekick to give those who register free access to Stridekick’s  fitness tracking platform. If you prefer to manually track your steps, click here.

There are already 367 teams signed up, so go ahead, get your team together and Happy Walking!
