The calendar has officially turned to 2018, and those of us in the Evansville area have plenty to look forward to when it comes to new retail and restaurant options!

All of the following businesses were first announced by the Evansville 411 Facebook page at some point in 2017. Some will be opening soon, while others are still a little ways off. Let's see what we're going to spend our money on in the new year, shall we?

Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market

Set to open on January 18th in The Promenade shopping plaza on Burkhardt Road, the Phoenix, Arizona based grocery store chain specializes in "fresh, natural and organic products at affordable prices," according to the Evansville location's Facebook page.

Dunkin' Donuts

Many have tried to compete with the locally-beloved Donut Bank over the years, and most of them have failed. Dunkin' Donuts will jump into the fray when they open the first of six planned locations in the old McDonald's in front of the north side Target on First Avenue. No set date for the first location has been set, however the Courier & Press reported a "mid-January" opening back on December 26th.

Sam's Club has been the only wholesale club in Evansville for a really long time, but that will change in 2018 in Costco opens its doors almost next door to Sam's in The Promenade Shopping Center.

One of Costco and Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market neighbors in The Promenade Shopping Center will be Wasabi, a Japanese restaurant which has had a location in Owensboro for a few years. Not much is known about the type of food, or style of service they provide, but based on the sign posted in front of the construction site back in October, it sounds like a hybrid sit-down, fast food style establishment.

Maiden's Brewery

Franklin Street will have a new resident in 2018 when Maiden's Brewery opens up shop in the former Magic Moments building on North Wabash Avenue of Flags across from the West Branch Library later this year. According to their Facebook page, the brewery and pub will be "a full service family friendly restaurant specializing in pub fare food & award winning brewed on premise beers." No exact opening date has been announced as of this writing.

Owensboro-based seafood restaurant, Catfish Willy's, announced they'll be expanding into Evansville in 2018, setting up shop in the Metro Shoppes strip mall at the corner of Virginia Street and Metro Avenue on Evansville's east side (5720 East Virginia Street, to be exact). I've been to the Owensboro location a couple of times, and if you love fresh seafood, you're going to find yourself at Catfish Willy's quite a bit. No official opening date has been announced at this time.

Despite what the name suggests, BoxLunch is not a restaurant, but a national clothing and accessories retail outlet specializing in pop culture attire. Only recently announced, it is expected to take up a store front inside Eastland Mall.
