Evansville, Indiana...we know it all to well. It's where we live, where we work, where we shop, where we eat and where we play. With all that in mind, we all have our opinions of the top places here in the 'ville. Everyone has a favorite restaurant, bar, pizza joint or activity we all love to do. When it comes to activities, sometimes we all need a little help in choosing the right things to do, especially on going on dates. Choosing the right places to go on dates can sometimes set a precedent with how things will be for a relationship. Well, I've compiled a list of the top 5 things to do, see or go eat at on a first date here in Evansville.

The Acropolis

501 North Green River Road, Evansville, IN

Ah, The Acropolis...what can I say? The interior is beautiful, the darkened lighting can really set the mood and the food, amazing!  Whether you go to the bar for a drink or partake in an entire dinner, going to The Acropolis is an event in itself. My recommendations: Dolmades, Gyros Tortellini and for dessert, Baklava. If I would change one thing, and this is the music lover in me speaking, I would change the music. The music (I would assume to be Greek musicians since it is a Greek restaurant) can be a little..."interesting" at times but if you're really into your date you won't hardly notice it's there.

Wesselman Woods

551 N. Boeke Rd., Evansville, IN

Now I know a lot o you will say, what??? Well I say, why not? Give it a try. There's plenty to do at Wesselman Woods such as going on a nice walk through the forest, go on a picnic, play some golf, tennis, basketball, who knows! It's conveniently located on the East side just right down the street from Roberts Stadium so it's easy to find. When you're done doing your outdoorsy stuff you can go get a bite to eat at the numerous restaurants close by (Kipplee's, Turoni's, Stockwell Inn and Western Ribeye and Ribs just to name a few).

Joe's Records

Ste D, 5625 Pearl Dr, Evansville, IN

Here's one of those off-the-cuff ideas so hear me out. Usually, people's tastes in music is brought up on first dates. Why that is and how that determines your chances of having a relationship with someone I've yet to figure out but oh well. Visiting a record store  (like Joe's) gives you that opportunity to show each person's favorite albums and to riff off of what each other recommends. Plus, if all goes well, you leave the store with either : A. a new music purchase; B. a new found appreciation for a record/artist/song; C. learning about some similarities/differences you may have with your date or D. one, some or all of the above.

Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden

1545 Mesker Park Drive Evansville, IN

Here's another one of those places to go and enjoy the great outdoors. Everyone loves the zoo. Also, it's one of those places that you can enjoy year-round, yes, even in the winter. You may not be able to see the all of the animals at all times of the year, but, let's say it's the dead of winter and you want to go somewhere that's warm and relaxing; visit the zoo and take a jaunt through Amazonia. It's a little slice of a rainforest right here in Evansville. You can enjoy walking around the warm, tropical area getting to know your date and enjoy a show of the animals.

Ri Ra's Evansville
loading...

701 Northwest Riverside Dr # B Evansville, IN

From subdued to liveliness, Ri Ra's atmosphere can change in an instant and that's what I like about this pub. After your dinner and other date activities, sometimes it's nice to sit down and enjoy a drink. Plus, I enjoy a good Black and Tan and this is my go-to bar in town for my beverage of choice. Everyone has their opinion on their favorite bar/night club and this is mine. Depending on the evening it can be loud and boisterous with a live band providing the soundtrack of the evening to a laid back place to sit back, relax and get to know your date.

Alright, now that list is not a compendium of what's what in Evansville, just my take on a few cool places to consider for a first date. What did I miss? Is Ri Ra's not your thing? Is there a more romantic restaurant to consider? Let us know in the comments below.
