For many students in Vanderburgh, Warrick, and Posey Counties, the much-anticipated Spring Break is next week meaning parents are going to need to find something to keep them occupied over the course of at least five days. If a trip out of town isn't in the cards, there are plenty of things to do right here in Evansville that won't cost you a dime.

Note: There is no admission fee for any of the following locations, however some do charge for additional activities provided outside of their primary attraction.

Hours of Operation:

  • 7:00 A.M. to Midnight (All Year)

Burdette Park has been a fixture on Evansville's west side since before I was born, and is a great place to simply enjoy a nice day outside. Kids can run, jump, climb, or swing on one of their many playgrounds, enjoy a hike or bike ride on one of their many trails, or simply bring some bread and feed the ducks along the banks of the lake near the main entrance.

*Swimming Pool and Miniature Golf also available for a fee

Hours of Operation:

  • Monday-Sunday: Sunrise to 11 P.M.

There's no doubt that at some point during the week, the kid's will likely be bouncing off the walls with a ton of energy they've built up sitting around the house. Get them outside and let them burn that energy at Kid's Kingdom at the corner of Veteran's Memorial Parkway and Waterworks Road in downtown Evansville. Make a day of it and enjoy a picnic lunch under the gazebo just off the playground.

Hours vary per branch. Visit EVPL.org for hours of operation of the branch nearest you.

Sometimes the Mother Nature can ruin the best laid plans, however all is not lost. You can still get the kids out of the house with a trip to your local branch of the Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library. Sit and read a book or two, or pick up a few DVDs to take back home for later viewing. All of which is free with your library card.
