There has been some misconception as what the role of 106.1 KISS FM in regards to news reporting. Let's clear that up.

In the past few months, we've received some Facebook messages and emails concerning things we talk about on the air or opinions we give. Undoubtedly, one comment is always said: "As a news organization, this is really unprofessional." These messages are usually a knee-jerk response due to a joke or blog about Donald Trump. As a news organization, it would be very unprofessional to make jokes about Mr. Trump while reporting on him. If Brad Byrd or Randy Moore do a hot 5 minute stand-up set about Trump's hair, yeah, totally out-of-line and biased. However, BIG OL' SPOILER: We are not a news organization. We are entertainers.

We're basically dancing monkeys

There is a misconception that because we talk about something in the news, that automatically makes us the news; that we should be opinion-less robots that just read a story and move onto the next. If that is what someone is looking for, great, you can achieve that by listening to or reading actual news done by far more talented journalists. Our goal, is to relay the news and then give our opinion about it. More often than not, that includes making jokes about the situation. Typically, most people tune in to hear what thoughts myself, The Rob, Kat, or Ryan O'Bryan have on any given situation. Somehow, we managed to get the great job of getting paid truckloads of money (I.E. a reasonable salary) to talk on the radio and say what we think. And sometimes you might not agree with what we say. And that is totally acceptable!

Here's a stock photo demonstrating it's OK to disagree.

It's perfectly okay to disagree with something we say. You can't please all the people all the time, etc. However, don't disagree under the guise that we are the news. Because we aren't. We aren't out hitting the streets and getting the scoop. No, we go to the same sites you do and make silly jokes about the stories.

The thing that I personally find the most frustrating is when I'm asked to show my personality only until I say something they disagree with. Suddenly, I need to be fired and am no longer good at my job. Sometimes, it has nothing to do with politics (although that is usually the catalyst). I upset someone recently by referring to chaps as "sex pants." To be fair, I always knew my job would be jeopardized by the phrase "sex pants." I should have said "fornication trousers" instead.

Curse you, pants!

We want to try to entertain you to the best of our ability. I believe in that you can't make fun of anything unless you can make fun of everything. Sometimes, you just have to joke about something ridiculous Trump has done. You just have to. Just like you have to make fun of leather chaps or something Kim and Kanye did. If you start drawing lines about what you can joke about, you end up with nothing to talk about. And nobody wants to listen to nothing. "Nothing" doesn't make for great radio. If you have a problem with something that is said on-air, you are entitled to have those feelings. Just please don't insult us. We have these jobs for a reason. And that reason is we are vastly unqualified to be journalists.
