Everybody fantasizes at least once during this life about a Christmas spent away from all of the people we love. It's not you; it's us. We love you so much that sometimes it's too much to spend every single holiday, every year, for the rest of our lives, with you. All we want is a Christmas vacation, and for our holidays to just turn out normal...and not end up like the movie, Christmas Vacation. So buckle up, buttercup! Even though we love you to the moon and back, here's 10 places we'd rather be than with you this Christmas:

1. The Beach
Let's face it: would you rather be sitting awkwardly in forced conversation around family you haven't seen all year, listening to your uncle drone on about football or would you rather be surrounded by sand dunes, glorious sunshine, and lots of fabulous booze options? Coconut rum and sunburns have never sounded so good.

2. A Concert
I guarantee that if Santa didn't have to deliver presents all night long, he'd be rocking out live at a concert! Mosh pits are really about as close as a family can get anyway, right?

3. On a Cruise
Come sail away on your very own Christmas Cruise fantasy, where the ocean is endless and so is the buffet. A seven day cruise to Mexico sounds pretty appealing versus the reality of ugly Christmas sweaters and monotonous small talk forced onto you by people you don't even really want to see. Not to mention, I trust Mexican tap water more than my extended family's baking skills.

4. A Spa
Instead of waiting for one of your insensitive aunts to inquire about why you look so haggard and bloated these days, just head off to the spa instead. While eating your emotions sounds like a good option, massages, facials, and hot oil hair masks sound like a better one. Pamper YO-SELF!

5. Traveling
Why spend time with family when you could be traveling instead? Picture this: you're in London, walking along on cobblestone streets and in the distance you catch a glimpse of Big Ben; or this: You're in Paris under the city Christmas lights, sitting outside of a small cafe gazing upon the extraordinary Eiffel tower. No matter where you decide to roam, traveling beats opening those awful white elephant gag gifts any day.

6. Disney World
Where better to be for Christmas than the happiest place on earth? No, I'm not talking about the liquor store...I'm talking about Disney World! Escape your reality of family bickering, crying children, and burnt food by making that journey to the House of Mouse. With the endless entertainment, holiday decor, and food galore, you just can't go wrong with Disney.

7. The Mountains
Colorado is spectacular this time of year. Entertainment options range from skiing, snowboarding, and hiking, to even riding the rails through the gorgeous Colorado mountains. Here in the luxurious Tri-state area, we probably won't see snow, but might be in for the treat of cold rain, muddy ground, and intermittent bouts of Christmas sleet! Please. This isn't even a hard choice, people!

8. The Movie Theater
Of all of the dramas I could choose from on Christmas, I'd rather be a part of a fantasy one, engulfed in an alternate reality for two hours rather than endure the real life drama that is family. Instead of being prodded for information through awkward interrogation, I'd rather watch rebels be interrogated by the Empire on screen. Why would you NOT choose the next Star Wars installment 'Rogue One' over family interrogation for Christmas?!

9. Home
If the Wizard of Oz got anything right, it's that there's no place like home. Don't be that person that stares at the clock longingly, trying to determine how much time is the adequate amount of time to endure the horror of traditional family Christmas. Play hooky for once in your life! Stay home, relax, cuddle in pajamas all day, eat ice-cream for breakfast and live it up. Turn on the TV and let the holiday binge watching begin!

10. Volunteering at the Shelter
Honestly, volunteering at the homeless shelter or a soup kitchen is just about as Christmas-y as it gets. What better way to show your love, kindness, and compassion than helping others on a day that's intended for togetherness, love, kindness, and compassion? Skip the family gathering, and experience a new type of family instead. Better yet, convince your family to spend Christmas with you at the shelter giving, and they'll receive so much more than they ever could have imagined this Christmas! Just make sure to work in a different area if, you know, you're trying to avoid spending more than a few minutes at a time with them...

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all this joyous season!

PS: Don't be offended, families. Sometimes, people just need to unwind. We still love you times a million!
